Coffee is a subject that writers are afraid to approach. There’s a fear of writing the wrong thing and being pulled up on misinformation by those more in the know. This is coming from a coffee novice. The more I learn, upskill and invest in coffee, the deeper that feeling becomes and the further I am to writing about it. Then, something happened. While struggling with the complexity, differing opinions and an infinite amount of education around this beverage, coffee was compared to cooking for me. Like food, coffee is ultimately about taste and flavour. Coffee is a living thing. It's a subjective matter, with lots of varying and contentious points. I like it one way, another person likes it a different way. From that moment on, I have approached coffee differently. I am no longer afraid of it, nor have I treated it like a taboo subject. Below, I share why I’ve come to realise this.
